The Desert Pea is a unique wildflower to Australia, well known for its beauty and ability to survive in a harsh and barren environment. Unfortunately, in today’s world we too are forced to live in an ever increasingly polluted and harsh world . Desertpea skin care was created to reconnect with nature’s harmony and celebrate simple, natural beauty.

We have not tried to change nature but rather embrace its powerful essential nurturing, invigorating and healing properties. This is why our unique skin care formulas are based on the scientific findings of Pelotherapy – namely, the use of clay (our earth) in the treatment of various human ailments.

Indigenous peoples have used clay cosmetically and medicinally since recorded history. When used externally, the clay minerals adsorb oil, dirt and toxins such as free radicals, metals and pesticides by attracting them to the surface of the skin. They are then absorbed where they adhere to the clay particles. At the same time, the minerals in clay also work by gently exfoliating and improving skin circulation, leaving the skin cleansed, invigorated, softened and nourished. The clay we use is sourced from the finest, pristine and untouched regions of Australia.

All raw ingredients, essential oils, herbs and botanicals have been chosen for their beneficial properties for different skin types to abide to our holistic approach to skin care and wellbeing. We do not test on animals and use only vegetable derived raw ingredients and oils. No synthetic colours or preservatives have been used in the making of our products.

Desertpea skin care is proud to showcase our signature skin care products, designed specifically for professionals in the beauty industry.

Desertpea skin care has evolved from, and been influenced by, a background in environmental conservation and remedial therapies. We recognised a need for a natural, environmentally aware and responsible product producer for the professional beauty industry.

Our vision
Our aim is to provide the professional therapist with the highest quality natural products that offers a holistic experience for the client whilst retaining an environmentally aware product base.

We aim to work tirelessly to fulfil and exceed our partners and their clients’ needs and wants.

Clay

Clay is made up of two main compounds, Silica and Aluminium, bound together to form a loose sheet like structure. The aluminium found in clay is a naturally mined mineral quite different to the inorganic toxic substance. Clay is made when rocks weather and dissolve into various elements and compounds. These molecules form layers based on charge and weight as they settle. Clay minerals are highly reactive due to their large surface area made up of minute particles and charged molecules forming a basis for their exchange capacity and swelling properties. Individual clays will have a different therapeutic effect according to their mineral content and absorption rate.

Clay is an effective remover of toxins from our skin because it adsorbs toxins by attracting them to the surface. This process is based on positive and negative charged ions being exchanged between the body and the clay. These toxins are trapped and then absorbed by the clay.

Some of the mineral components that you can find in clay are aluminium, silicon, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, titanium, sodium, phosphorus, copper and zinc. The role of minerals and trace minerals in developing and maintaining health has been, and continues to be, widely studied. This role is now recognised as an essential catalyst to the performance of vital chemical processes within the human body. Minerals activate immune responses, assist healing and tissue regeneration, destroy bacteria and eliminate toxins, and actively stimulate and rebalance organs. The loose structure of the clay and its affinity with water enable the supply of essential minerals to the skin. The clay stimulates the skin, which in turn increases blood circulation and induces perspiration, thus helping in the elimination of toxins and other wastes. This is why therapeutic clays are excellent to use in regenerative skin care.
Therapeutic Properties of Clay

Antiseptic: destroys bacteria without attacking healthy tissue.
Healing: clay regenerates tissue as a result of being high in minerals such as silica, aluminium and zinc.
Adsorbing / Absorbing: drains infections and absorbs excess fluids, aids the body’s digestive system by absorbing toxins.
Sedative: sedative-like action on local and general pains, whether inflammatory or traumatic.
Mineraliser: transmits the necessary mineral salts to the organisms for biological equilibrium.
Rebalancing: provides sufficient mineral salts to enhance the natural immune system of the body.
